One of my fav things about covering bags for Bag Snob is that I get to discover new and emerging brands in the handbag world. I get especially excited when they skew indie contemporary brands. These days, is it really necessary to spend a pretty penny on a luxury bag? A slew of indie entrants are popping up to collectively answer us with a no!

Meet one such brand – Lutz Morris. Founded by German native, Tina Lutz, the brand focuses on beautifully handcrafted leather goods. Lutz connects with German artisans, well versed in their craft to create elevated, timeless pieces while also preserving the generations of knowledge in fine leather production.

These bags are stunning in its simplicity, and I’ve got keen eyes on the Maya. Elegantly understated, the Maya is a cross body with a front side in glossy croc-like finishing that really makes it standout. While it’s not real, it takes a skilled leather technician to treat calf leather and make it look both refined and luxe, and by the looks of it, the Maya perfectly embodies both.

The bag opens to gusseted sides and 7 slots for your credit cards, which probably suggests you should nix bulky wallets altogether. I love the very idea of a contained, clean look and the only logo you will see is a minimally printed ‘Lutz Morris’ on the back slip pocket. It comes with a thick detachable strap, which I probably wouldn’t remove. Measuring 7’’ it might be a bit too big as a clutch.

With Fall in full view, there’s so many pretty colours to choose from, including burnish orange, deep burgundy, dark navy and rich olive. Designed with a minimal approach, it would pair wonderfully with a lush coat to press against.

The brand also donates $10 to an amazing non-profit, Every Mother Counts, which helps mothers deliver their baby safely. Some of us wish we could donate more, at least this way, you know some of it is going to a noble cause. The bag retails for $1,181 and you can get it at Matchesfashion.
